The New Voyager in Lisbon
After we discovered The New Voyager in 2015, before the launch of Cabana, we became good friends with the brand’s founder Emma Swinscoe, a French journalist who has lived on both sides of the Atlantic in recent years. Having released the first guide of Los Angeles in 2014, while living in this city, Emma complemented the collection of guides with Paris and Brooklyn. A traveler by nature, Emma felt the need to create specially designed maps for children, inspired by her passion for illustration and the curiosity of her daughters.
Passionate about the light and lifestyle of Lisbon, Emma fell in love with the city on the various visits she made with her family, and we quickly came to the conclusion that it would make sense for The New Voyager and Cabana to team up for the launch of the guide dedicated to the Portuguese capital.
Like the best things in life, Emma met Rafaela Rodrigues by chance when she visited Ó! Galeria in Alfama, after buying tiles at Cortiço & Netos for her house in England. When Emma showed us Rafaela's work, we soon realized that she would be the ideal person to illustrate the Lisbon map.
With her beautiful illustration style (very Lisboan, despite being from Madeira), Rafaela perfectly captured the spirit, light and colors of Lisbon and Sintra, and we could not be prouder of the result.
After several months of research, editing and illustration, the guide was finally presented on April 14th 2018 at Baobá Livraria, at a party that had many lovers of our city, friends and children ready to illustrate a giant map of Lisbon, in a really fun activity with Rafaela Rodrigues.
We want to thank the kind Emma for the invitation to make the guide together, the talent of Rafaela, the friendliness of Baobá team to welcome us and of course to all the little ones (and grown-ups) who will use the The New Voyager in Lisbon to explore our beautiful city!
